About Ruth
Dr. Ruth Alice Morgan-Jones has practised as a counsellor and therapist for four decades. She trained first as a social worker and later completed a PhD at the London School of Economics.
She is a BACP member and draws on many years of clinical work in both charities and independent practice. Her early training was psychodynamic, and she now blends different approaches in sessions. She uses ideas from Carl Rogers, C G Jung, narrative work and systemic thinking to help people make changes.
Background and approach
Her style is practical and respectful and aims to empower people to move to the next stage of life. Ruth has long experience supporting people with relationship problems, grief and family challenges. She also works with anxiety, stress, depression and issues around self-esteem, intimacy and communication.
Additional focuses include adoption and foster care, attachment matters, chronic illness and caregiver strain. Her background includes founding and leading a charity for people with special needs and their families, and training others in diversity and inclusion. She has researched and written about the impact of hearing loss on family life and is an excellent lipreader.
Sessions are offered in English and she accepts international clients. Her approach suits people who want a thoughtful, mixed-method way of approaching problems and who prefer a counsellor who listens carefully before suggesting change.
How therapeutic approaches translate online
Attachment-based work looks at how early bonds affect current relationships and patterns. Online sessions can help people identify repeating dynamics and try out new ways of relating in day-to-day life.Client-centred therapy focuses on a supportive, non-judgemental relationship where the client leads the pace. This approach helps people explore feelings and make decisions at their own speed, which works well in conversations by video or phone.
Finding the right approach is part of the therapy itself. The therapist will collaborate with each person to decide which methods suit their goals and preferences, and may combine approaches as needed. That choice will be shaped by what the client wants to address, whether it is anxiety, relationship patterns or life transitions.
Online formats offer practical flexibility. Video calls provide face-to-face interaction for rich discussion, phone sessions need less bandwidth and can be easier to fit into a busy day, while live chat or text-based messaging allow shorter check-ins and paced reflection. These options make it easier to keep continuity of care across locations and schedules, and to choose a format that fits everyday life.
